I had an idea of using cassette tape in a photoshoot for a while and recently had a chance to finally try this concept out. My sister was the model, I've photographed her countless times throughout the years and she's always up for doing some crazy stuff. I would like to think that it's due to the fact that she feels so comfortable with me rather than because she's ever so slightly unhinged, but who knows? Some of our previous shoots included having her lying in a bath tub filled with paper offcuts; wearing a bubble wrap dress (courtesy Chouchou Couture) and copious amounts of glitter or being wrapped up in tinfoil, to name but a few. This time it was £20 worth of cassette tape - who would've thought I'd be spending that kind of money buying cassettes in 2012? But I digress... After unwrapping, opening and smashing each cassette with a hammer (in order to get the actual tape out) we headed off to SWG3 studio to shoot.
I have to say, the tape didn't exactly behave or look on camera as I'd imagined but hey, you never know these things unless you try, right? I think we managed to get a few decent shots in the end though. Judge for yourselves, your feedback is always appreciated:
